Cathy McGrath asked for modifications of the agenda. Frank J. Barrett, Jr. and Peter Berger responded stating no modifications needed.

Town Health Officer

The incoming Town Health officer, Tiffany North Reid, has a start date of September 1, 2017. Cathy McGrath stated that new officers are approved on the first of the month; however, Tiffany North Reid will be approved on October 1, 2017. Cathy McGrath suggested Peter Berger meet with Tiffany North Reid over the weekend. Brian Hanson suggested that Tiffany North Reid be invited to the next Selectboard meeting held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Cathy McGrath questioned when to produce and mail the Fairlee Newsletter. Noël Walker suggested Tiffany North Reid, incoming Health Officer, be noted in the next issue. Cathy McGrath stated a draft newsletter will be ready for review at the Tuesday, September 5, 2017, Selectboard Meeting. Noël Walker will work with Georgette Wolf-Ludwig to review the mailing address list. Cathy McGrath suggested proofing the newsletter in one week and mailing out by the second or third week of September. In the newsletter, there is a need to honor volunteers. Peter Berger suggested adding information on the Park and Ride, crosswalks, and what was done on the water tank project. Noël Walker suggested a mention of the flower beds.

Peter Berger stated that the Lions Club needs an acknowledgement letter for their donation of $250.00. 


Brian Hanson attended a FEMA meeting and is working with Mike Wright regarding the $3200 damage. Peter Berger stated that on Rt 244 private driveways were impacted. Brian Hanson responded that Mike Wright was to see damage. Peter Berger mentioned that $10K was available, but unsure if the town could get such a grant. 

Cathy McGrath questioned if there was a decision on the municipal planning/ACC housing grant. Cathy McGrath asked to communicate with Chris Brimmer, Zoning Administrator, concerning deadlines.

Regarding the Town Hall septic project, Cathy McGrath will talk with Church Board Chair, Paul Tracy. Brian Hanson stated that there will be a Church Trustees’ Meeting on Wednesday, September 6.  

Brian Hanson discussed with Nathan Stumpff of Catamount about the solar project area. Peter Berger asked how this project stands with the Fish & Game Department. Frank J. Barrett, Jr. will contact Jane Kitchel, Senator, Caledonia-Orange District, about the project.

MOTION: Signing of Vermont Solar Farm project, Rt 5 South; Peter Berger/Frank J. Barrett, Jr. (moved and seconded). The motion passed unanimously.

Cathy McGrath presented the Town of Fairlee, Conflict of Interest Policy. Brian Hanson stated that at the next meeting this form will be presented for approval/signing by the Selectboard.

Regarding the housing update, Cathy McGrath will speak to Jane Kitchel.

Brian Hanson stated that Gary Leach from Tata & Howard will provide a detailed plan on draining and disinfecting the tank. Peter Berger stated that part of the detailed plan is to ensure that the tank meets water quality standards. Frank J. Barrett, Jr. suggested that the quantity of water in the tank is chargeable.

Frank J. Barrett, Jr. stated that they should refrain from working on the north end of the railroad station. Cathy McGrath stated that an assessment of the building’s underlying support is needed. Frank J. Barrett, Jr. suggested that a timber framer could provide a cost report and then they will go forward with grant funding.


The orders and correspondence were presented to the Town of Fairlee Selectboard for signatures.

MOTION: Frank J. Barrett Jr./Peter Berger (moved and seconded) made a motion to close the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
